SMALL GROUP SUNDAY FAQs (January 28)

What’s the purpose of Small Group Sunday?

  • The primary purpose of Small Group Sunday is to ensure that all members of the Vine are connected to a small group.
  • The secondary purpose is to celebrate and encourage the spirit of community amongst existing small group members.

What’s being asked of me as a facilitator?

  • We are asking all facilitators to be present in the lobby from 10:10 to 10:25 a.m. and for 30 minutes after service to speak with people about joining a small group. Specifically, please ask everyone you see, “Are you part of a small group?” If they are not, please attempt to engage them in conversation about the benefits of being part of a group and/or direct them to the Small Group registration table.
  • Wear the badge which will be provided to you identifying you as a small group facilitator.
  • Ensure your small group sits together during morning worship service.

What’s being asked of my small group?

  • We are asking all groups to sit together during morning worship service.
  • Do something to show the spirit of your group!  This could be as simple as wearing similarly colored outfits or even wearing identical t-shirts to represent your group.  Whatever you do does not need to cost any money; just be creative and have fun! A prize will be issued to the group who demonstrate the most creativity. There is no formal criteria for judging creativity; this is merely meant to be a light-hearted competition.
  • Participate in a group photo opportunity either before or after service in the lobby (by the large cross). A photo time will be assigned to your group and provided to you by the Sunday evening prior to the event.

How will my group know where to sit?

  • If your group desires specific seating in the sanctuary, please ensure that two representatives from your group are present in the sanctuary between 10:10 and 10:15 a.m. to hold the seats for your group. Two sheets of paper with the facilitator names printed on them will be provided to your representatives in order to “reserve” pews.
  • If you do not care where your group sits, simply enter the sanctuary prior to service and sit together.

Additional Details

  • Each group will be individually recognized for about two minutes during service. During this time, your group will be asked to stand and tell us something about your group (e.g. your group name (if you have one), what matters most to your group in terms of community, etc.). Groups will have a maximum of two minutes to speak (a wireless microphone will be provided to your group).
  • Groups are not being asked to set up a display table in the lobby, though you are more than welcome to do so if you wish! Please notify Sandi by Monday, January 22, if you need an empty table set up in the lobby for a display of some sort.
  • Pastor Lubin makes all small group assignments for new participants. Please do not invite people to join a specific small group; simply invite them to join a small group. All small group participants must register on the website for record-keeping purposes.
